  • Light housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, all of which are part of VA homemaker services provided through the VA’s H/HHA program.

  • We offer non-emergency medical transport for veterans, including rides to VA doctors’ appointments, rehab, and errands when allowed.

  • Engaging conversation, safety supervision, and emotional connection, all part of our in-home companionship for veterans.

  • Alzheimer’s and dementia routines, cueing, and safety support.

  • Short-term care during hospital-to-home transitions or to give family caregivers a break (also referred to as caregiver relief) for veterans.

  • Our care is available to veterans who reside in private residences, independent living, assisted living, and other non-institutional communities.

Monthly financial support to help you stay at home

The Veterans Aid and Attendance (A&A) benefit is a monthly supplement added to your VA pension. If eligible, you can use it to cover the cost of in-home care for veterans, including personal care and companionship.

Eligibility:

• 90+ days active duty, including 1 wartime day
• Medical need: help with daily activities, or bedridden/limited eyesight
• Financial need based on income and assets
• Surviving spouses may also qualify

How it helps:

• Use funds for services like hygiene assistance, home aides, and meal support.
• Stay at home instead of entering a nursing home or facility.
• Apply funds toward care with trusted agencies like Avenues and our subsidiaries.

No-cost home care for enrolled veterans

The VA’s Homemaker and Home Health Aide (H/HHA) program offers free in-home care for veterans who need help with daily activities. These services are ordered by your VA provider and delivered by approved agencies like Avenues Home Care and our subsidiaries.

Included services:

• Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding
• Mobility support and transfers
• Medication reminders
• Meal prep and light housekeeping
• Companionship and safety checks
• Short-term VA respite care at home

Accessing the H/HHA program:
